eCl@ss expert groups

The members of the eCl@ss expert groups develop the eCl@ss classification according to market requirements and on the basis of incoming proposals. Any interested qualified person is welcome to collaborate with the expert groups. Collaboration is free of charge, irrespective of membership in the eCl@ss organization.

Their tasks within the release process are described here.

Center for Research and Development (CRD)

Apart from the eCl@ss expert groups that are responsible for the maintenance of the content of the eCl@ss standard itself, the Center for Research and Development (CRD) is responsible for the technical development of the standard. The objectives of the CRD follow the predetermined strategy of the eCl@ss e.V. and result from the board’s orders and resolutions:

Sustainability and Innovation

The CRD will secure the data-technical applicability, sustainability and future viability of eCl@ss. By observation of the relevant environment (market requirements, standards institutions, IT providers) and its expectations as well as other relevant factors, technological requirements to the eCl@ss data structure will be identified, analyzed and communicated at an early stage. The CRD independently develops innovative and potential approaches to ensure the sustainable and benefit-oriented implementability of eCl@ss. The CRD formulates appropriate strategies for this purpose to meet the requirements. These will be developed in accordance with established rules and are subject to the approval of the Board.

Integration possibilities of other standards

The CRD provides, through standardization of data structures and formats, the international and cross-industry data-technical applicability, as well as the exchangeability of the eCl@ss standard. It defines the rules for the harmonization or integration of other relevant standards and, if needed or at the request of the board, creates the technical prerequisites to do so. Integration in this sense shall be considered as the data-technical possibility for the inclusion of other standards in eCl@ss - according to predefined rules of eCl@ss - and not to create or maintain potential mapping tables.

Planning security and efficiency

The basic objective of the CRD is to guarantee a certain IT planning security concerning information technology and modeling for all stakeholders (users, requestors, head office, etc.). In order to achieve an IT planning security the efficiency of the processes of both the system-technological development of the standard as well as the user-friendly design of the ServicePortal shall be increased. The focus lies, among other things, in the development of change management rules and the definition of release types, as well as their technological implementation and export in accordance to demanded data structures.
