Restricted spaces are volumes that can only be used to a limited extent around the product. For example, these spaces must be kept free for assembly, operation or maintenance or minimum distances from other electrical components must be maintained.

Level
Type
Structure element name Application, explanation Function for CAx and process
1
C

Number of restricted spaces

Specification of the number of designated restricted spaces

Selects the block for the description of restricted spaces according to number

B

Restricted space

Block restricted space

Description of required article-specific space specifications for mechanical or electrical requirements

Supports the correct positioning of the article, taking into account spatial dependencies

3
M

Type of restricted space

Indication of the usage/utilization of the restricted space. Value list see following table.

The type can be used to control display options or security checks in the CAx system.

W

Connection

Working areas required for connecting the cables to the device depending on conductor cross-section, bending radiuses, final-conductor-treatment and cable-entry-situation

W

Maintenance

Required maintenance spaces for the movement of hoods and flaps during maintenance beyond the scope of the shell dimensions.

W

Thermal

Air spaces for heat dissipation

W

electrical - parts to be grounded

necessary air spaces for parts to be grounded as insulated sections. (e.g. air outlet space)

W

electrical - to live active parts

Additionally required air spaces between component and active parts as insulated sections. (phase distance)

W

Mechanical

the required space for motion during assembly exceeds the scope of the shell dimension specifications, unless these are described by other restricted spaces

M

Expansion (positive) (mm)

Specification of the end point of the space as coordinate specification and alignment of the end point.

CAx display possibility of spaces during the placement of articles

3
M

Expansion (negative) (mm)

Indication of the starting point of the space as coordinates and alignment of the end point.

CAx-display-possibility of spaces when placing articles

These restricted spaces are described in the form of simple cubes. To do this, simply describe 2 opposite corners of the cube in the space with corresponding properties.

Figure 1: CAx basic example of restricted spaces - explanation of the 2-point description

Preferably the property "Expansion (negative) (in mm)" should describe the corner with the smallest x-/y-/z-values - see red circle marking - and the property "Expansion (positive) (in mm)" should describe the opposite value with the largest expansions of the axes - see blue circle marking.

Example - restricted spaces:

Hint: Instead of two separate restricted spaces above and below a product, a restricted space can also be described as a volume spanning over the entire product.

The following options exist for the specification:

Case a) A restricted space is specified in which the complete device is enclosed (1st column).

Case b) Two separate restricted spaces are defined which are required above and below the device (2nd column).
