In the development of products, the trend is towards modular systems, in which a basic product can be varied or extended in its range of functions by combining it with additional components. Typically, these are manufacturer-specific system components.

The blocks of the component receptacles describe the points on the product where additional products (accessories, e.g. touch protection cover, labels, auxiliary switches, releases) can be mounted to extend the function.

The added article with the fitting mounting variation overlaps with its mounting reference point on the position of the component holder on the basic article.

The value of the feature "Mounting variation name" of the mounting variation and the value of the feature "Designation of component receptacle variation" should be the same to allow identification of the appropriate combination of mounting and counterpart.

The component receptacles block can be used to describe simple relationships between articles, but is not used to describe extensive configuration options. Here it is recommended to use the corresponding manufacturer-specific configurators, the results of which can then be used further.

Number of component exclusions

If certain components with the same description of the component receptacle cannot be mounted here

Selects the block to describe component exclusions.

5/6
B

Component exclusion

If the component receptacle is used, the component receptacles listed here cannot be used (e.g. mechanically blocked).

7
M

Exclusion component variation name

The value to be entered is the "Description of the component receptacle variant" of the corresponding excluded component receptacle.

Number of fixing points

Fixing points are only necessary where the articles are fixed to each other in a punctiform manner, e.g. by screws.

Selects the block for the fixing point description according to number

C

Number of part relationships

Only if - in a fixing-dependent manner - other parts are required than those already defined at article level under part relationship.

Selects the block to the part relationship description according to number

The following options are available for modeling the relationship between a component receptacle and the components that can be mounted there:

Within the block component receptacle, the block Part relationships lists the articles that can be used at this position. This is illustrated in the figure:

Figure 3: Component receptacle with part relationships

Within the block of component receptacle, the description of the component receptacle can be used to identify the articles that can be used at this position. This is illustrated in the figure:

Figure 4: Component receptacle with identification via the description of the component receptacle

The matching counterparts must then contain the same entry in the mounting variations property.

In addition, the fitting articles can be listed in the block of the component receptacle under part relationships. However, this depends on the use case: if there is a large number of articles that fit to a component receptacle - i.e. with systemic solutions that offer a high variance - the user will use the manufacturer-specific configurator to generate his own solution. The resulting complementary products can then be placed on the main article.
